Westlake Charter School hosts their annual fall festival and a book fair on Saturday October 21st, at the K-8th campus. The community was invited to participate in fun activities and also be able to buy things, like books, pencils, erasers, etc.
At Westlake Charter School, it was the 11th annual Fall Festival where the community was invited to have fun and participate in games. There were many games, like the Cake Walk, Boo-Loon Pop, Can Knock Over and more. There were also foods like pizza, prizes like candy, biddings for fall baskets and you were also able to decorate pumpkins.
Numerous Explorers were there, including parents, instructors, staff members, and those from outside the school. Many explorers got to reconnect with their former classmates and teachers.

Many of the games were simple, like Boo-loon Pop (which was for two tickets), where you had to pop two balloons with three bean bags and you earned a prize. Some of them were a bit complex but easy to understand like the Cake Walk. In Cake Walk, you had to give a ticket in order to play. After that, pick a cone and wait for the music to begin. When the music stops, you stop at the cone next to you, and the host in the center selects a participant to select a ball with a number on it that is inside the bucket. After the participant selects it, the host announces the winning number, and the winner gets to choose a treat!

If you won, the majority of the game's prizes included candies, fun erasers, stickers, and more. You could choose any type of dessert from the Cake Walk, such as cookies, muffins, cupcakes, candy popcorn and pies!

There were also enjoyable coloring activities with the games and prizes. You could paint a pumpkin, do face painting, color bookmarks, and even get tattoos. There were a lot of little Explorers with face paint and tattoos!
Along with the games, there was a wide variety of cuisine. Pizza, nachos, hotdogs, and other foods were available. There were also various types of sweets, such as cookies, cotton candy, candies, and so on! There was also Kona Ice to cool you down! They had shaved ice with a variety of flavors.
In the gym, there was a bidding selection. There were gifts wrapped up with different things inside, like gift cards, board games, food, electronics, and blankets.

Along with all the games and prizes to win, there was also a book fair. We were able to interview the school’s librarian, Ms. Polanco, who works at the K-8 campus. Ms. Polanco was asked where the money raised from the book fair is going.
“All of the funds that we get from the book fair goes back into our library for new books for our classroom libraries or the library here at Westlake.”
The Expedition also asked, “Is there a wide variety of books that students can pick from that are entertaining for them?”

Ms. Polanco responded, “There is an online book fair that starts on the 19th, which has a wide variety of books that start from preschool and go up to adult level books, including Spanish books, graphic novels, a science section, and more.”

The last question The Expedition asked Ms. Polanco was, “Why do you think this is important for our school, and school community?” Her answer was, “It’s important because the library and myself as a librarian too, build a relationship with families and help the Explorers grow as readers. This is also how we get new books and more books for the library.”
The book fair is an important part of Westlake Charter School and helps to provide students with more knowledge.
Not only does the book fair provide you with books, they also have many other fun things to choose from like fun erasers, pens, pencils, journaling books, posters, candy, and so much more.
