As Westlake Charter High School hosted their first Sports Rally in the new 2023-2024 school year to introduce its fall sports, wrap up Spirit Week and get students excited for Homecoming. The rally had taken place at Westlake Charter High School and was set up in the school's gymnasium on Sept 22. As freshmen, sophomores, and juniors filled up the gymnasium, cheerful noises arose and gratitude was shown to our hosts Sofia Dominguez and Egan Holder as they led students in fun activities and WCHS tradition of “Which year can scream the loudest?” which obviously the Class of ‘26 had taken the win.

“WCHS students should expect a lot of fun, a lot of games, and a lot of Westlake spirit. It should be a wonderful time,” said Brandon Rubin, Leadership teacher here at Westlake. And indeed, students did enjoy this student-led rally along with the sense of suspense on the line to see who would be nominated for Hoco Royalty.
As the Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball Team had run in the gymnasium filled with roaring sounds of excitement, they lifted up starter libero Alyssa Foronda in the air to catch the set by Carena Dang as a part of their dramatic entrance. Moments later, the rest of the fall teams had made separate entrances to welcome and showcase our 2023-2024 Fall Sport and the achievements they have made.
“As it's my first year attending high school, it was a wonderful experience to see my fellow classmates and others participate in the fun activities.” says Lisa Fifita, current freshman attending WCHS.
Students participated in four student-led games which were (1) “Head, Shoulders, Knee and Cup!” where there would be multiple players with 1 opponent and they would use their reflex abilities to capture the cup placed in front of them once the announcer has said “cup”. (2) “Linked Forever” in which students were placed into groups and had to get the hula hoop from one side to the other without breaking their linked arms. (3) “Chase the Ballon'' where students had balloons tied to their ankle and were set on a time limit for 1 minute to pop the opponent’s ankle balloon without getting their own balloon popped. And the last but not least game number 4 was WCHSs school tradition “Which Graduation Year can scream the loudest?”…the class of 26 had taken the win along with winning 75% games this whole rally.
As Westlake figures out their next steps to planning the Winter Rall in the winter of January, all students and staff members had enjoyed themselves and learned something new. For more stories, follow The Expedition website.
